So here is a challenge for you, Oppo: pick a car and explain how different the world of cars would be if said car did not exist. (and no you can’t pick the Benz Patent-Motorwagen and Ford Model T because that’s cheating).

Without the Tesla Roadster, we wouldn’t have the Tesla Model S, then we wouldn’t have such a surge of electric car production.

OK then, how about the fardier à vapeur, built by Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot in 1770.

I think it is pretty clear what the non-existence of this one would have caused.

Miata, because without it the world would be a much sadder place,
But in all seriousness, we all know how it saved the fun british roadster formula from the brink of extinction. I’d also venture to say that the daily driver ‘fun for the masses’ segment would be very different...as in probably only pony cars or big money sports cars from Germany.

I still think this thing not only got automakers to take chances on boring midsize sedan design, but also that only offering 4-cylinder engines in a family mover was acceptable as well as compromising the rear headroom for a 4-door coupe styling attempt. Equal design effort for all vehicle segments (look at midsize, compact, and subcompact econocars prior to 2010 when Fluidic Sculpture hit the roads). I think the industry was moving this way regardless, but the Sonata and Optima transformations just moved everything up substantially.

Are you going to explain the significance of The Ferrari TheFerrari? Or do you want me to take a crack at it?
Without The Ferrari TheFerrari, some other car would be known as the car with the dumbest name ever.

The 58/60 Lincoln Continental. Without it’s crazy design it is likely we never would have gotten the far more contemporary (and successful) 60s Continentals.

I applaud the fact that Hyundai showed the world that risks are ok, but living with a Sonata personally, the visibility is just awful compared to something like the Accord.

The roadster put Tesla on the map. People knew what Tesla was, so they were more comfortable buying the Model S. The Model S becomes a smashing hit and now all car companies want a piece of that.

1972-1984 Lancia Beta, legendary for horrible rust issues even by 1970s standards, it and the later Gamma killed Lancias reputation outside of Italy hard and therfore essentially doomed the brand to die a slow, agonizing death.
